Came for three weeks to finish paperwork — got stuck for half a year. Tashkent, Samarkand, Bukhara.
We went to Uzbekistan, to the embassy — to finally finish the paperwork and get our US immigrant visas. We planned for three weeks, but a temporary pause in visa issuance left us stuck for half a year.
Small consolation: our parents and friends came out to join us. Together we managed to see Tashkent, Samarkand, and Bukhara — and had a great time in this hospitable country.
